Powerhouse schools set for Herald Sun Shield girls title showdown

Melbourne Girls Grammar, Caulfield Grammar (Senior Girls Div 1) and Carey Grammar, Rowville Secondary College (Intermediate Girls Div 1) will contest 2024 Herald Sun Shield Grand Finals after winning their Semi-Finals

Football powerhouse schools Melbourne Girls Grammar and Caulfield Grammar will face off in the Grand Final for a second-straight year in the Senior Girls Division One competition of the Herald Sun Shield, after comprehensive wins in their Semi-Finals on Tuesday.

It puts the winners of the past two top senior girls division titles in the decider next week and will settle, for the time being, any debate around the strongest schoolgirl secondary football team in the state.

Melbourne Girls won the 2023 Herald Sun Shield premiership and have again dominated the Girls Sport Victoria competition this season, while Caulfield tasted Herald Sun Shield success in 2022 and have been the benchmark in the combined Associated Public Schools/Associated Grammar Schools competition for some time, including as undefeated premiers in 2024.

In their Semi-Final at Williamstown, Melbourne Girls proved far too strong for Sacred Heart College, Geelong, with the final score 9.8 (62) to 1.0 (6).

Caulfield created a lot of chances their clash with a determined SEDA College side and eventually ran out 4.15 (39) to 1.4 (10) winners at Sandringham.

The 2024 Herald Sun Shield Senior Girls Division One Grand Final will be played at ETU Stadium, Port Melbourne, next Tuesday 13 August at 12:30pm, and live streamed on kommunitytv.com.

The Intermediate Girls Division One Grand Final will also be played next Tuesday prior to the senior clash, to be contested between Carey Grammar and Rowville Secondary College, with both schools winning their Semi-Finals comprehensively at Williamstown.

Carey blitzed Ballarat Grammar with the final score 14.8 (92) to 0.3 (3), then Rowville ran away from defending Intermediate Girls Division One champions, Sacred Heart College, to triumph 8.15 (63) to 1.2 (8).
