WOMEN AND GIRLS

The AFL has committed to the continued progression of the game for women and girls across all levels of Australian Football.

Focusing on the pillars of Participation, Pathways and Performance, and Partnerships, the AFL and AFL Victoria are supporting a number of initiatives that recognise the current state of play and forecasts future objectives and targets for the AFL across junior participation programs, community football, talent pathways, state leagues, leadership and administration, diversity and inclusion, umpiring, coaching, and environments.

Through these implementation of these initiatives the AFL is striving to become the most accessible, inclusive and visible sport in Australia, and the number one sporting choice for girls and women.

The Women’s Football Vision objective for participation is striving for equal participation and representation by 2030. This translates into:

  • Equal opportunity for women and girls to play, coach, umpire, officiate and govern
  • A participation pathway that best supports the continued development of participants and enables lifelong participation in the game.

The Women and Girls Game Development Action Plan - which supports the delivery of the 2030 Women’s Football Vision participation objectives - is currently in phase 1. Both the Women’s Football Vision and Phase 1 Action Plan’s can be found below.
