Local Legends: One of the best from Nyah West

Vicki Allen has been a pillar of the Nyah Nyah West United Football Netball Club for decades, and her impact goes even further than that.

Born and raised in the regional Victorian town of Nyah West, Vicki Allen has been a member of the Nyah Nyah West United Football Netball Club (NNWUFNC) her entire life. NNWUFNC is a team within the Central Murray Football Netball League, and Vicki has been a regular attendee at league meetings and a great supporter of the competition as a whole, on top of her loyalty to her local club.

Vicki has been on the committee of the NNWUFNC for over 25 years, serving as Secretary for more than 20 of those, with her various other roles including football game day manager, catering team leader, club canteen manager and running many successful fundraisers for the local community.

Her commitment to volunteering in these roles is impressive, but it's the behind-the-scenes work that Vicki puts in to go above and beyond for the Nyah West football community that makes her a true unsung hero. Vicki has quietly coordinated various facets of the football club to keep it not only on its feet but thriving, including organising end of season trophies, membership cards, player travel arrangements, food and catering pre-orders, equipment ordering and being a NAB AFL Auskick Coordinator, to name a few.

Vicki and her partner Max have been rewarded with Life Memberships for their commitment to the NNWUFNC over many years. Vicki's children are also members of the club, with young Isobelle coming through the junior netball and football ranks through the local NAB AFL Auskick and Net Set Go programs.

Vicki’s contribution is admired and respected by the entire Nyah West community, at every club in the Central Murray League, and by league administrators across Victoria. Having recently stepped down from her position on the committee, it is a fitting time to acknowledge Vicki’s contribution to Australian Rules Football, and AFL Victoria is honoured to share her story as the next Local Legend.

AFL Victoria’s Local Legends initiative aims to recognise the local heroes who are the lifeblood of their local clubs and communities.

Whether it be a coach, player, umpire, local business owner, administrator or volunteer, AFL Victoria wants to celebrate the people who are the backbone of community football clubs. Community football clubs simply could not survive without those who are willing to show up each weekend and make sure that the game goes ahead, crowds are well fed, players are supported and success is enjoyed.

Nominees for the AFL Victoria Local Legends initiative can be anyone who is involved in a community football club in any capacity, whether it be paid or unpaid, directly related to the game or a behind-the-scenes super star, these legends are who make community football what it is.

Do you know someone with a great story like Vicki’s? Nominate them now.
