AFL Victoria update following Victoria State Government announcement

07 JUL 2020

The health and well-being of fans, players, umpires, officials, partners, volunteers and communities has been our number one priority during the COVID-19 pandemic

We have a responsibility to be part of the whole of community response to slow this COVID-19 virus down in Victoria – and in doing so, help the broader community and our health systems to cope.

AFL Victoria’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic has always been in line with Government and Chief Health Officer advice regarding returning to train and play in a safe environment. This continues following the Victorian Government announcement today of return to stage three restrictions to Metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire LGA.

Following the Victorian State Government advice, no community football training or competition or NAB AFL Auskick can be held in Metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire LGA during stage three restrictions. These directions will commence at 11:59PM on Wednesday 8 July and continue for six weeks to 11:59PM on Wednesday 19 August.

For regional Victoria other than Mitchell Shire LGA:
• Full-contact training and full-contact competitions, and Auskick can continue for people 18 years and under.
• Small outdoor non-contact group training can continue to occur in groups of up to 20 for people aged over 18 years. Clubs/teams are to strictly adhere to a maximum of two (2) groups of 20 participants per group.

AFL Victoria and Community Leagues will continue to work with the State Government so that any resumption of community football activity in Victoria does not compromise the health of individuals or the community. If that advice changes then AFL Victoria and community leagues will act accordingly.

It is a challenging time for the entire community and AFL Victoria will continue to act in line with Government advice to ensure it is in the best interest of all Victorians.
