Youth Girls National Championships

The countdown is over for the 50 girls chosen to represent Victoria County and Victoria Metro at the AFL Youth Girls National Championships in Canberra.

The young stars flew out from Melbourne today for the Nation’s capital with games to begin on Sunday.

Both Vic Metro (reigning champions) and Vic Country (4th in 2013) will play in Division 1 alongside Western Australia and Queensland.

Each side will play three games in the preliminary rounds before the placings are decided in Thursday’s grand finals.

The inaugural Wommeras (indigenous combined side) also contains a number of Victorians, with the girls to do battle in Division 2 against South Australia, NSW/ACT and a Northern Territory/Tasmania combined side.

AFL Victoria will also to keep you up to date with all match results, best players and news from what will no doubt be an exciting week.

You can follow the girls’ progress on twitter @aflvic or @youthgirls #gamechangers and #AFLYGChamps14

Photos and game results will also be posted on facebook
