AFL Victoria celebrates This Girl Can Week from March 18-24.
This Girl Can Week is dedicated to encouraging more women to give physical activity a shot, or to return to activity after a break.
Celebrating and supporting Victorian women embracing physical activity in a way that suits them, This Girl Can – Victoria is an empowering campaign from VicHealth, based on Sport England’s highly successful This Girl Can campaign which motivated 3.9 million women in England to take their fitness into their own hands. As a result, VicHealth was inspired to get involved and now Australia is the first country in the world to licence this powerful campaign.
This Girl Can Week is more than just encouraging women to give physical activity a shot. The campaign is also about empowering women to feel comfortable in their own skin without worrying about judgement or stereotypes. A VicHealth study showed that Victorian women worry about being judged while exercising which stops them from taking part in sport or exercise.
AFL Victoria was at the This Girl Can Melbourne Masters Football Come and Try session on Wednesday, 20 March which saw over 40 women come and try football, regardless of their skill level.
