WorkSafe celebrates the return of footy in Lexton

WorkSafe Victoria, together with AFL Victoria hosted their first Country Club Game on Saturday when the Lexton Tigers took on the Talbot Hawks at Lexton Reserve in round one of the Maryborough Castlemaine District Football League.

A big crowd was in attendance to celebrate the return of country footy after last season was cancelled, at what was the first of a series of country club matches to be hosted by WorkSafe over the course of the 2021 season.

The Lexton Tigers were the inaugural winners of the WorkSafe Country Club Challenge and awarded a game day experience in the 2021 Season. The challenge was launched in 2020 to encourage Victorian country clubs to stay connected during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Three-time Richmond premiership player, Bachar Houli, was in attendance to meet the local community.

WorkSafe have been a proud partner of AFL Victoria for the past twenty years and is committed to helping country footy clubs by promoting the message of workplace safety to ensure all players, volunteers and supporters can be at the game, every weekend.

In the senior game, Lexton led all day and ran out 40-point winners over Talbot, 12.8 (80) to 5.10 (40) with Matthew Brown the star kicking five goals.

Lachie Pett (4) was awarded Best on Ground and presented the inaugural Country Club Medal by Head of AFL Victoria, Brad Scott.
