More community football can take place from Friday 11 June

AFL Victoria welcomes the further easing of COVID restrictions, meaning more community football across the state can take place from Friday 11 June.

Following the Victorian Government's update on Wednesday 9 June, below is a summary of what it means for community sport/football including Auskick:

RESTRICTIONS FROM 11.59PM THURSDAY 10 JUNE:

The Victorian Government's updated Table of Restrictions is available here.

Summary of restrictions applicable to community sport:

REGIONAL VICTORIA

Community sport: Open for all ages, training and competition, but cannot travel intro metropolitan Melbourne (unless for work) and must be within venue caps (currently maximum venue capacity 150 people, including no more than 50 indoors).

Key points for this weekend:

  • Senior and junior regional competitions can go ahead
  • Auskick can go ahead

This means that senior club football competitions in regional Victoria can resume matches from Friday 11 June, following the resumption of junior club football competitions and Auskick last weekend, provided Victorian Government protocols are adhered to.

We understand regional leagues and clubs have questions, such as specifics around the 150-person cap per venue. AFL Victoria is working with the state government to get answers to various questions regarding senior club football in regional areas for this weekend.

As per government guidelines, residents of metropolitan Melbourne are not permitted to travel to regional Victoria for community sport under the current restrictions.

METROPOLITAN MELBOURNE

Community sport: Training only, no competition permitted and 25km limit applies. Limited to the number required to participate in and facilitate activity.

Key points for this weekend:

  • No senior or junior metro competition matches
  • Senior and junior metro clubs can train
  • Auskick can go ahead

This means that junior and senior club training and Auskick can resume from Friday 10 June, provided Victorian Government protocols are adhered to.

AFL Victoria encourages Auskick Centres in metropolitan Melbourne to return this weekend so kids can get back to playing footy, provided they can adhere to government protocols. AFL Victoria will be communicating with Auskick Centre coordinators with information specific to getting Auskick back in metropolitan Melbourne this weekend.
