Western Heights College, Geelong and St Kevin's College, Toorak will compete for the 2024 Herald Sun Shield Intermediate Boys title

The 2024 Herald Sun Shield Intermediate Boys Division One Grand Final, featuring the best schoolboy football teams from across Victoria with students up to year 10, will see Western Heights College, Geelong take on St Kevin’s College, Toorak.

Western Heights, representing School Sport Victoria, progressed to the Herald Sun Shield decider with a strong 22-point victory over perennial Herald Sun Shield powerhouse St Patrick’s College, Ballarat in the Semi-Final at Williamstown on Wednesday, with the final score 6.9 (45) to 3.5 (23).

Evan Milne booted two crucial goals for Western Heights, while Luca Lossino, Joey Davidson, Bode Black and Malaika Rowan-Seiulaili were the winning team's best. For St Patrick's, Tobias Dixon was the only other multiple goal-scorer on the ground, also with two, and best players were Ethan Drever, Riley Hiscock and Kai Watkins.

In the other Semi-Final played at Sandringham on Wednesday, St Kevin’s College earned their place in the Grand Final with a 46-point win over defending champions Parade College, 9.13 (67) to 3.3 (21), denying the Bundoora school the opportunity to do the Senior-Intermediate double again.

St Kevin’s qualified as the top school in the Associated Public Schools 10A competition and have progressed by beating Associated Grammar Schools representative Assumption College in the Play-In game and now Associated Catholic Colleges force Parade, with Western Heights the only team standing in their way of the Herald Sun Shield Intermediate Boys Division One title.

Key forward Ashwin Currie kicked two goals for St Kevin’s while Albert Macgowan, Jack Massey and Alex Dreaver were named their team’s best. For Parade, skipper Sonny Caruso worked hard and kicked a goal.

The Western Heights v St Kevin’s match will be played as the first in a double-header of Grand Finals on Wednesday 14 August at ETU Stadium, Port Melbourne at 10am, followed by the Senior Boys Division One Grand Final between reigning premiers Parade College and Emmanuel College, Warrnambool.

In Girls Division One, double-header Grand Finals will be played the day before the boys on Tuesday 13 August and also at ETU Stadium, Port Melbourne. In Senior Girls, it's a repeat of the 2023 final match-up featuring defending champions Melbourne Girls Grammar and Caulfield Grammar while in the Intermediate Girls, Carey Grammar will be out to go one better than they did a year ago and face Rowville Secondary College.
