The Victorian Government has announced that lockdown will be extended for metropolitan Melbourne by seven days, until 11:59pm on Thursday 18 August, which impacts community football.

Important information for community football in metropolitan Melbourne:

  • No community club football training or competition, or Auskick, is permitted to take place in metropolitan Melbourne during the lockdown period
  • Residents of metropolitan Melbourne must remain within 5km of their homes and are not permitted to travel to regional Victorian locations to participate in community sport

Important information for community football in Regional Victoria:

  • After the Victorian Government earlier this week announced the lifting of lockdown restrictions in regional Victoria, community football competitions and Auskick are open for all ages, including training and competition - click here for details
  • As announced by the Victorian Government on Wednesday 11 August, residents of the cross-border community local government areas will now be required to obtain a permit to cross between Victoria and NSW from 6pm, Friday 13 August.
  • The reasons Cross Border Community Area residents can cross the Victorian-NSW border still include:
  •         Organised/community sport and exercise connected to or organised by a club or facility.
  •         Residents will be able to apply for a permit from Thursday afternoon at the Service Victoria website, https://service.vic.gov.au/ and via the Service Victoria app

Regarding community football matches fixtured during the lockdown period, independent leagues across the state are ultimately responsible for determining the approach they will take regarding interruptions to their competitions. AFL Victoria has a framework with recommendations for leagues to consider regarding various scenarios for competitions interrupted by COVID – CLICK HERE.

AFL Victoria will continue to work closely with the Victorian Government and will be guided by advice from the government and health authorities, with the health and safety of the community the top priority.
