Local Victorian footy clubs are celebrating in the wake of the 2022 NAB AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft with eight lucky Victorian draftees amongst the 17 players on their way to a new home.

The top three draftees all played their junior football in Victoria. Former Langwarrin star, Jai Culley, was selected with the first pick by West Coast with North Melbourne opting for mature-age Williamstown CYMS key defender Kallan Dawson at pick two, and Essendon taking classy half-back and former Point Cook junior, Massimo D'Ambrosio, at pick three.

Williamstown CYMS Premiership player, Kallan Dawson, was taken with pick 2 by North Melbourne

The draft serves as a great reward for all the hard work that these players have put in throughout their junior careers, but it also allows us to recognise and celebrate the community clubs that have paved the way for our young stars.

Box Hill defender and former Park Orchards player James Blanck, taken by the Hawks at pick 20, said he is thankful for the great memories and lessons that junior football gave him during his time at the Sharks.
