There’s now even more opportunity to be involved in footy!

From teenagers through to our open age category, it’s become even easier to pick up a football and pull on the boots as the AFL launches its revitalised AFL Nines competition.

Running across the country, this fast and dynamic format of the game is all about developing skills through modified match play, having fun and making friends.

Playing one match a week at local venues, the nine-a-side game is set on a smaller, modified field ensuring everyone gets a touch.

Competitions vary depending on where you live, simply register as a team for the grade that suits your group. There’s youth (13+), senior, masters, male, female and mixed divisions.

With a flexible schedule and less physical demands, AFL Nines is ideal for those keen to play team sport without any pressure.

Executive General Manager of Game Development, Rob Auld, said AFL Nines was a fun format that suits all abilities.

“Whether you’ve grown up kicking a footy or are new to the game, AFL Nines provides a clear pathway for teenagers and adults to play footy and get involved in Australian football,” Auld said.

“Offering more ways to play, Nines is a great way to keep fit and active, and focusses on developing skills, getting a feel for the game and having fun with mates.

“We want to make sure these increased opportunities to play are family friendly, so all venues are local, the games are tackle-free and there’s limited to no commitments outside of game day – it’s also easy to register and affordable for families.
