In partnership with Richmond Football Club’s Korin Gamadji Institute, AFL Victoria will deliver the second instalment of the Laguntas & Jim Stynes Program in 2019.
The objective of the Laguntas & Jim Stynes program is to support the talent pathways through the NAB League and AFL competition.
The program targets talented Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and multicultural footballers aged between 16 and 19.
The program promotes football development and embraces cultural identity, while also educating young men about other possibilities that are available within the AFL such as coaching, umpiring and administration.
A total of 50 participants from around the state, including 25 indigenous and 25 multicultural participants, will commence the program on Thursday, April 11.
This year will see the return of various education sessions including cultural, football, health and wellbeing sessions. There will be a range of guest speakers from Richmond Football Club who will educate the participants about nutrition and the football recruiting process.
The camp concludes on Friday, April 12 when both sides go head to head at Punt Road Oval.
The exhibition match will be used as a selection tool with players from both Laguntas & Jim Stynes competing for a place in the Diversity All Stars team, which will play a Victoria Country U16 representative match later this year.
