2019 Herald Sun Shield Competition

Currently in its 43rd year, the Herald Sun Shield Competition involves the top qualifying senior and intermediate teams from secondary school sports associations statewide.

The competition has seen many elite football talents pass through its ranks over the years, with numerous players going on to become professional AFL and AFL Women’s football players.

In the Senior Boy’s competition, St Patrick’s of Ballarat continue their strong presence in the Shield, playing off for the Senior title for the 11th consecutive year. St Patrick’s take on St Bede’s in what is sure to be a fast-paced match-up.

In the Intermediate competition, Xavier College and St Bernard’s will battle it out after both enjoying strong wins in the semi-finals.

The Girl’s Division One Competitions will see two carbon copies of last year’s finals.

Ballarat Grammar will be seeking redemption in both grades, with the Senior Girl’s pitted against Hallam Secondary College, who played off in a thrilling semi-final against Mt Lilydale Mercer College, needing only 22 minutes to secure the win.

The Intermediate Girls will again take on Geelong’s Sacred Heart who held on to win a thrilling GF in 2018.
