The Victorians in the 22under22 team and where they came from
The strength of Victorian football was on show on Thursday, as 11 of the 22under22 side originated from junior clubs across the state.
Further highlighting the state’s success, over half of the 40-man squad—nominated earlier this month—grew up playing their junior football in Victoria.
Sam Walsh (St Joseph’s Football Club/Carlton) and Andrew Brayshaw (Hampton Rovers/Fremantle) were recognised as the respective captain and vice-captain of the side for their impressive seasons.
The side highlights the success of community football clubs and programs as a pathway towards the elite level game.
