Lexton tops WorkSafe Country Club Challenge

AFL Victoria, in conjunction with WorkSafe Victoria, is excited to announce that the Lexton Football and Netball Club has been crowned the winner of the WorkSafe Country Club Challenge.

Launched in April 2020, the challenge was supported by AFL Victoria and Netball Victoria to encourage country football and netball clubs to stay connected during the COVID-19 pandemic.

For two months clubs have participated in six rounds of different challenges, with one point awarded for players, supporters or clubs that participated in the weekly challenges to post a video to the Facebook page using #CountryClubChallenge.

WorkSafe Chief Executive Colin Radford congratulated the Lexton Football and Netball Club for their winning entries.

“Having grown up in the country, I appreciated the critical role that football and netball clubs play in their local communities,” Mr Radford said.

“In most country towns and districts, the local football and netball clubs are the heart and soul of the community.

“They unite us in a common purpose, and help us stay connected, which has never been more important than right now.”

AFL Victoria Head of Community Investments and Stakeholder Relations Rick Bell said it was great to see the challenge encouraging interaction and competitive spirit between clubs.

“Lexton demonstrated real drive throughout the challenge,” he said.

Netball Victoria Netball General Manager of Netball Participation Mel Taylor said it was encouraging to see the diversity and number of different entries from across Victoria

“There were a vast number of entries from the netball community and it has really brought out the competitive spirit in clubs,” she said.

WorkSafe received 2683 entries from 39 clubs across the state during the challenge.
