Excitement is building ahead of the Herald Sun Shield Division 2 Girls Grand Final this week, with Woodleigh College set to take on Sacred Heart at IKON Park on August 30.
In its third year, the Division 2 Girls Grand Final is one of six competitions taking place as part of the 2016 Herald Sun Shield.
For Sacred Heart, a 112-point thumping of SSACCS in the semi final served as perfect preparation for Tuesday’s Grand Final.
Standing in their way is Woodleigh College, who held Thomas Carr College goalless in their semi-final clash to secure a grand final berth.
Woodleigh coach Ben Davenport said the entire school is rallying around the team.
“Our Year 12 boys have tried very hard to get the day off school to come and watch the girls which is great to see, but they were unsuccessful, but they did try very hard,” Davenport said.
“The whole school is really caught up in what a great achievement it is to make the grand final, so it’s a really exiting time for us.”
Davenport also said the improvement in his side since its inaugural year in the competition has been vast.
“We played last year, but we had a lot of player unavailability and we got thumped.
“This year the girls are ready and they’re really excited, so it’s going to be a great day for them.”
The Herald Sun Girls Shield Division 2 Grand Final will kick off on Tuesday, August 30 at IKON Park from 11:30am.
