The National Risk Protection Program was first implemented throughout all football levels in 2004. In Victoria the program has had a significant benefit in two key areas:
Reducing the Insurance Premium levels. (An estimated total $1 million annual saving will be realised by Community clubs on their insurance bill)
Improving the quality of the insurance coverage with the exception of 2 leagues who have existing insurance contracts in place, all leagues in Victoria will benefit from the new arrangements.

Basic Risk Management strategies are a crucial component of ensuring that the National Program is successful and the benefits are afforded long term. Check with your league regarding the requirements of your league. N.B.: A full separate unit of the AFL Administration Course is dedicated to Risk Management.
It is important that club secretaries familarise themselves with the insurance coverage and ask questions of the league or the insurers direct if you are unsure regarding any aspect.
