BALLOON FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Scope’s Balloon Football League is a version of AFL that has been modified to suit the needs of people with severe disability.

The game is played five a side on a basketball court, using wheelchairs, a large balloon and Auskick goal posts. Scope BFL was invented 20 years ago by three gentlemen with a disability and it now played by over 200 people across Victoria.

Who is it for?

Balloon Football was designed by and for people with a disability. This is a game that anyone can play. Players use wheelchairs on the court and people who do not use wheelchairs can loan one from Scope for the game.

Balloon football like any other sport, BFL comes with a whole suite of benefits for its participants:

  • You can get fit, improve your dexterity and strength
  • You can make new friends by playing as part of a team
  • There’s real opportunity to challenge yourself achieve. Scope have a local league that competes weekly; there is also the opportunity to compete at a State level.
  • You can develop your leadership skills, which can lead to roles like team captain, coach, umpire, state-wide committee member. It’s a great way to contribute to your community.

Community involvement

Scope has a long history of working with community partners, including AFL Victoria, schools, sports clubs and local businesses. They are always seeking volunteers, so please get in touch if you’d like to come along and help out.
