Ringwood’s Aquinas College has secured the Division Two Boys Herald Sun Shield title after defeating St Francis Xavier College by 40-points at Trevor Barker Oval on Tuesday.
From the opening siren Aquinas College meant business, slamming on three majors in the opening term to establish a solid 19-point lead at quarter time.
Despite the lack of scoreboard pressure, St Francis Xavier’s effort in and around stoppages proved fruitful in the second term, restricting the flow of Aquinas goals and gaining some confidence in the backline.
St. Francis Xavier’s determination to move the ball forward was rewarded in the third quarter, pilling on four important goals to bring the margin back to just 20-points heading into the final term.
But it was a case of too little too late for St Francis, with Aquinas digging deep to find another gear and produce a three goal to none final term to run home victors.
Aquinas’ Henry Ballard was rewarded for his on-field efforts with the Best on Ground medal, while Kyle Nunn took home his side’s best player award.
