AFL Victoria has released the official rankings for the 2019 WorkSafe AFL Victoria Community Championships following a successful 2018 competition on Saturday May 19.
Thirty-two community football leagues have been assigned new nominal rankings following their participation in its 2018 Championships, which saw the best senior players from across Victoria go head-to-head in a one off interleague match.
Eastern Football League has secured the number-one ranking after defeating former reigning premiers Geelong Football Netball League by 42-points at Etihad Stadium.
For the first time, two metropolitan leagues will face off in the top-ranked match in 2019 after the Northern Football Netball League rose to second position following a 40-point win over Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League.
The loss sees Geelong FNL drop to third place, Mornington Peninsula NFL slip to fifth spot, while a 76-point win over the Western Region Football League has seen Ovens & Murray Football League secure fourth place in season 2019.
Rounding out the top ten ranking positions are Goulburn Valley L (sixth), Western Region FL (seventh), Hampden FNL (eighth), Ballarat FNL (ninth) and South East FNL (tenth).
The 2019 Rankings list does not provide a likely schedule of matches for 2019, with leagues given the opportunity to opt-in or withdraw from the competition each season.
Final entries for participation in the 2019 season are not requested by AFL Victoria until the end of year to allow leagues sufficient time to decide whether they wish to participate in the competition the following year.
