The stage is set for a blockbuster triple-header of football when six schools play off for the Intermediate titles in the coveted Herald Sun Shield competition on Wednesday August 15. Mark Koelmeyer reports.
Held at MARS Stadium in Ballarat, these young guns will get the chance to show off their skills on an official AFL ground in what is expected to be one of Ballarat’s iconic wintery days.
Kicking off the triple-header is the Division 2 Intermediate Girls decider between AGSV representatives Ivanhoe Grammar and EISM representatives Luther College.
Having overcome a tough round robin tournament in which they competed against the SIS, APS and CSEN representatives, both Ivanhoe and Luther will be primed to put forth their best effort to ensure they have bragging rights over other divisions.
The second game on the schedule is the Division 2 Intermediate Boys Grand Final between SIS school St Francis Xavier and Warrnambool’s Emmanuel College representing SSV.
They were the two best performed sides in a gruelling four-game round-robin fixture in which they defeated the GISSA, SACCSS and EISM.
Fans should expect a hard fought contest emulating that of the round robin tournament which saw a bevy of close games.
It should be the perfect game in lead-up to the Division 1 Intermediate Boys decider which sees ACC representatives Parade College take on Melbourne Grammar.
Parade will be confident heading into the match after dispatching AGSV representatives Marcellin by eight goals in the semi-final.
Parade produced a well-balanced performance with contributors across the board, on route to a comfortable win in which they had 23 scoring shots to nine.
Their opponents Melbourne Grammar, will be poised heading into the decider after knocking off Ballarat powerhouse St. Patrick’s in their semi-final outing.
Confidence will be high in the Melbourne Grammar camp and we can expect a close hard fought contest from the two best teams in the division.
The triple header will kick off at 10am, with games to follow at 12:15pm and 2:30pm.
