Zara named NAB AFL Auskicker of the Year

Eight-year-old Zara Winterton from Berwick in Victoria has enjoyed a Toyota AFL Grand Final experience she will never forget, after being named the 2017 NAB AFL Auskicker of the Year.

The NAB AFL Auskicker of the Year competition demonstrates NAB’s commitment to supporting footballers from the grassroots to the big time – celebrating the passion and dedication of thousands of children who attend NAB AFL Auskick centres across Australia every weekend.

From hundreds of entries, a team of 22 nominees were chosen to vie for the title of NAB Auskicker of the Year.

Zara, a passionate footy fan from Berwick Auskick Centre is in her first year playing NAB AFL Auskick and hopes to one day play in the AFL Women’s competition.

As part of her prize, Zara was presented with $5,000 from NAB, and Geelong Cats star Joel Selwood will be her personal footy mentor for 2018.

Zara and her fellow nominees enjoyed an unforgettable experience at the 2017 Toyota AFL Grand Final last weekend, presenting the premiership medals to the Richmond Football Club at the MCG.

NAB Chief Marketing Officer, Andrew Knott, said NAB is proud to continue to support the AFL and AFL Women’s competition, and the NAB AFL Auskick program is vital to growing the great game.

“We want to support young footballers in local communities right across Australia,” Mr Knott said.

“Just like Zara, we look forward to continuing to celebrate all the stars of tomorrow. We hope to one day see Zara take to the field in the AFL Women’s competition.”
