Played at Geelong’s GMHBA Stadium, Hallam shot out of the blocks early, piling on four goals to one in the opening half to establish an early lead at the main break.

Despite hitting the scoreboard and restricting Hallam to no score in the final half, Ballarat was unable to claim its third straight Herald Sun Shield title, going down by 14-points.

Hallam’s Emily Browning was judged Best on Ground for the premiers, while Brook Thompson secured top honours for Ballarat Grammar.

Having secured consecutive titles in the inaugural year of the competition in 2012 and 2013, Hallam’s win now sees them tie with Ballarat Grammar as the best school in the competition with three premierships apiece.

In the Division 1 Intermediate Girls competition, it was Geelong’s Sacred Heart College who secured their first title over Ballarat Grammar by eight points.

Sacred Heart lead from the front all day, with its forward pressure applying the heat to Ballarat early.

Despite a big fourth quarter effort, it was not to be for Ballarat, eventually going down 5.5 (37) to 4.3 (27).

Sacred Heart’s Charlotte Simpson was a standout for her team and took home best on ground honours, while Ballarat’s Chloe Stewart was judged her team’s best player.

The next Herald Sun Shield deciders will be held next week, with the Division 1 Intermediate Boys and Division 2 Intermediate Boys and Girls Grand Finals lining up on August 15.
