THE ROLE
The role of the Oakleigh Chargers Football Club U18 Program Assistant Coach is to assist the Head
Coach in all coaching requirements for the Oakleigh Chargers Football Club TAC Cup U18 Football
Program.

The role of the Oakleigh Chargers Football Club Assistant Coach is to develop and teach the fundamental
skills to members of the TAC Cup squad under the direction of U18 Head Coach/Director of Coaching,
assist in the preparation and implementation of weekly training plan for squad and managing a line
(Back/Mid/Fwd) both at training and in match day capacity – ensuring the highest possible coaching
standards across the Oakleigh Chargers Football Club Program.

The aim of the TAC program is to develop the player skills, fitness and professionalism to a level to
enable the ability to transition effectively into the highest possible level of football competition upon
graduating from the program – AFL, VFL, or Community level football.

TASK PROFILE
The TAC Cup Assistant Coach is the assistant coach of the talented U18 youth player programs in each of
AFL Victoria’s development regions. The assistant coaches’ primary responsibility is to assist in the coaching
of the region’s TAC Cup U18 team.

Another key responsibility is to assist in the design and implementation of the programs’ coaching
curriculum. Assistant Coaches will be a key driver of Individual Player Development plans, both in planning
and delivery of such plans.

The aim of the TAC Cup competition is to develop young footballers to the maximum of their ability.

To achieve their potential players are to be coached in such a way that develops:
 the skills, physical attributes and football knowledge, and the
 personal characteristics and self-esteem of each player

AFL Victoria believes that the above development can be maximized in an environment that:
 Emphasises individual player development rather than team success.
 Emphasises individual contribution as an essential component in a team environment.
 Considers the players’ long-term participation in football at a variety of levels.
 Promotes a balanced approach to the players’ life styles.

Players in the TAC Cup competition are to be coached in a manner that provides potential draftees with
the maximum opportunity to be drafted and to facilitate the successful transition from the TAC Cup
competition to an AFL club for drafted players.

The TAC Cup competition via the conduct and coaching of the competition prepares and encourages
exiting players not drafted by an AFL club to continue playing football at a level commensurate to the
player’s ability.
