21 year old female field umpire Eliza Broadbent created history on 17 April when she became the first female to field umpire an Eastern Football League senior game, Forest Hill vs Canterbury.

After last season umpiring Division One reserves, Eliza was given the opportunity to step up to senior football early this season and has so far grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

By umpiring senior football on a regular basis will enable her to develop her umpiring and continue to work her way through the senior ranks with hard work and dedication.

Eliza is also a member of AFL Victoria’s Female Umpiring Academy which is coached by former AFL Grand Final field umpire Martin Ellis.

She also created history in 2008 when  she was the first female umpire  appointed to the E. J. Whitten Legends game at Etihad Stadium.

Eliza is a great ambassador for female participation in football.
