AFL Victoria is encouraging all Victorian school teachers to attend the upcoming FREE multi sport Teacher PD Program to increase their knowledge of football teaching methods.
AFL Victoria, in conjunction with Cricket Victoria and Netball Victoria, has launched a new Teacher PD Program course in June which focuses on game sense application across the three codes.
Designed in accordance with the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers, the teacher specific program provides theoretical and practical information on coaching via Game Sense activities including cooperative games, striking and fielding games, net court games, invasion games, playing for life resource and planning and practical appraisal.
The program aims to integrate activities from three different sporting codes [AFL/Cricket/ Netball) and highlight the similarities between game sense activities across the 3 sports and the effective teaching of interchangeable skills.
Participants will address Key stages of development of primary school-aged children and their implications for teachers; development of sport specific skills; developing effective communication strategies in the sporting environment; facilitating games and activities that engage students of different ages and abilities.
