AFL Victoria congratulates Australia Post AFL Diversity Community Ambassador Sisay Dinku who was appointed as a Commissioner of the Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC) last week.

Officially announced by Minister for Multicultural Affairs Robin Scott on Tuesday, Dinku will fill an existing four-year term vacancy in the leadership team, bringing the number of VMC Commissioners to 11.

Involved in the Australia Post AFL Diversity Community Ambassador program since its inception four years ago, Dinku has been pivotal in engaging with African migrants to participate in Australian Football in both the talent and employment pathways.

Working with the African community in Melbourne’s western suburbs, Dinku’s role in identifying young leaders and promoting the game has helped more migrants embrace Australia’s national sport.

AFL Victoria Diversity Manager Xavier Moloney said Dinku’s appointment was a great recognition for the work he does in the community.

“Dinku has been a terrific ambassador and positive role model for our game within the African community he manages,” Moloney said.

“He loves Australian Football and his passion for the game is evident through his selfless community work.

“He has been involved in our Diversity Community Ambassador program since the beginning and is a well-respected member of not only his community, but the wider football industry as a whole.”

The VMC is an independent body that speaks on behalf of Victoria’s diverse communities and plays a key role in promoting participation, understanding, cohesion and harmony across the state.

Dinku’s term as Commissioner will expire at the end of August 2019.
