Football clubs in Victoria can now apply for funding to rejuvenate their sports facilities through a host of facility grants available.
COUNTRY FOOTBALL NETBALL PROGRAM
Football and netball clubs in regional Victoria and on the metropolitan fringe can now apply for funding to rejuvenate their sports facilities through the Country Football Netball Program.
Through the program, the Victorian Government has teamed up with AFL, AFL Victoria and Netball Victoria to fund a range of facility developments for country football and netball clubs across the state.
This new round continues the great work of helping regional clubs, and clubs on the metropolitan fringe, who may be struggling with outdated, over-used or weather-damaged facilities.
Grants of up to $100,000 are available for projects that improve facilities, including change room overhauls, replacement of drought-affected turf, and installation of court lighting.
Since 2005, the program has kicked in over $23 million to more than 460 projects. This has delivered much needed infrastructure upgrades and given clubs the infrastructure they need to grow.
AFL Victoria CEO Steven Reaper has urged eligible football and netball clubs to apply for funding through their local councils.
“This program has been incredibly effective in assisting clubs to upgrade and modernise their facilities. As participation in the game continues to grow, so does the need for facilities to support not only the growth, but the changing profile of participation.”

COMMUNITY SPORT INFRASTRUCTURE FUND
In addition, community sports clubs can also access funding from the Victorian Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Fund.
The Community Sports Infrastructure Fund is a Victorian Government funding program that helps provide high quality, accessible community sport and recreation facilities across Victoria.
AFL Victoria CEO Steven Reaper has congratulated the Victorian Government on providing opportunities through this fund for clubs to develop a range of projects that are consistent with the directions of AFL Victoria’s Football Facilities Development Strategy 2017 – 2022 ‘Growing the Heartland’.
“Partnering with the Victorian Government, with football and with local Councils and their communities and clubs is crucial to enabling infrastructure investment and then maximising its use.”
The Community Sports Infrastructure Fund has a range of different categories, some of which include:
- Major Facilities – Grants of up to $650,000 (where the total project cost is more than $500,000, excluding GST) are available to develop or upgrade major district and regional sport and recreation facilities
- Minor Facilities – Grants of up to $100,000 for any one project (where the total project cost is up to $1,000,000 excluding GST) are available for community sport and recreation groups, working in partnership with local government, to develop or upgrade community sport and recreation facilities.
- Female Friendly Facilities – Grants of up to $100,000 are available to build new and upgrade existing, outdated change facilities at sports clubs around the state that cater for female sport, with a focus on promoting female and family friendly environments.
