The Blackburn Football Club is pleased to announce it will be fielding a senior women’s team in 2018 and is seeking a senior coach.
Following the launch of the AFL women’s season earlier in the year, names such as Pearce, Hope, Perkins and Phillips have become household names. We even got to see former Blackburn players, Katherine Smith in action for Melbourne and Courtney Young in the coach’s box at Collingwood.
Not only did we see huge crowds at the AFLW games but we have seen a significant increase in the number of women and girls playing football. None of this comes as a surprise to us at Blackburn.
We have been actively promoting girls playing football for more than ten years and this year have around 100 girls playing across five teams (Under 10s, 12s, 14s, 16s and 18s).
So it’s only fitting that we expand our program to include a senior women’s football team in 2018. This will complement both our existing football and netball programs, making Blackburn a truly community club. Like our boys we will be providing a full pathway for girls from Auskick, through juniors, onto seniors and, who knows, even the AFLW.
We are now looking for someone who shares our vision and is keen to coach our senior women’s team.
So if you:
- are as passionate about female football as we are,
- have excellent communication and organisational skills,
- work well in teams with other members of our coaching staff, and
- can inspire our players to perform to their best. …….then we would love to hear from you.
Blackburn FC is committed to the ongoing development of our coaches including support to coaches undertaking accredited Level 1 and 2 coaching course, and ongoing in-house training.
