Two of country Victoria’s top junior development squads have been recognised for their efforts both on and off the field in last month’s V/Line Cup, after receiving the 2018 Team Development Awards.
Following a successful 2018 V/Line Cup carnival in Latrobe City, the V/Line Cup Team Development Awards are presented to one male and one female team who best demonstrated outstanding levels of sportsmanship and teamwork throughout the four-day tournament.
With the focus of the V/Line Cup on player development rather than winning, the award provides the opportunity for teams to be recognised for their ability to show a willingness to learn and grow as one.
A selection panel of a number of AFL Victoria staff present at this year’s carnival narrowed down the number of high-quality team entries to just two winners.
Of the 14 Division One and Two Boys teams participating in the carnival, the Western Bulldogs Next Generation Academy (WBNGA) were awarded the 2018 Team Development Award for their impressive teamwork and overall development as a group.
While the WBNGA produced strong and consistent on-field performances, the squad’s notable professionalism in their presentation and execution were a standout.
Of the eight Under 16 Girls teams participating in this year’s V/Line Cup, Geelong Falcons claimed the 2018 V/Line Cup Girls Team Development Award for their willingness to learn and positive coaching philosophies.
Recognised for their sportsmanship and teamwork, the Falcons’ positive attitude and enthusiasm throughout the carnival was a highlight for selectors.
In addition, several of Victoria’s top junior footballers and umpires were recognised for their efforts in the 2018 V/Line Cup, named in the 2018 Team of the V/Line Cup representative squads.
